SRK will have to include rent on gifted Dubai villa while filing I-T return

Khan had been gifted the concerned villa, and he took possession of it in 2008

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will have to include notional rent from his villa in Dubai in his income tax returns filed in India, said a ruling by the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), the Economic Times reported on Thursday.
The development comes right on the heels of Khan finally winning his income tax case scrutinising his earnings from his stint on the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
According to the financial daily, Khan had contended that income from immovable property in Dubai would be liable to be taxed only in the UAE under the India-UAE tax treaty. Therefore, Khan submitted, he had not offered it to be taxed in India.
While rejecting his contention, the tribunal did allow for credit for taxes already paid in the UAE to be allowed according to the law.
The report added that Khan had been gifted the concerned villa, and he took possession of it in 2008. For financial year 2009, the report said, tax authorities had estimated the deemed rental value to be Rs 96 lakh. Subsequently, the I-T department sought to tax Rs 67.2 lakh, after a 30 per cent standard deduction, in Khan's hands.

Before Bahubali 2, makers to release Bahubali 1 again

Rana Daggubati and Prabhas are overwhelmed with the response to the trailer of Bahubali 2

Director S S Rajamouli wants the audiences to revisit the world of "Bahubali" before the release of " Bahubali 2 : The Conclusion".
Rajamouli today said they are planning to show the first part a week before the second edition hits theatres on April 28.
"We are planning to release part one maybe one or two weeks before the release of part two in southern states so people can get back into the narrative," Rajamouli said at the trailer launch of the Hindi version here.
Both Rana Daggubati and Prabhas are overwhelmed with the response to the trailer.
"The fans are happy with it. It's overwhelming to be a part of the film," Rana said.
The Tamil version of the trailer had leaked online hours before its official release and the makers called it "technical glitch".
"This particular thing is neither due to leakage or piracy, it is due to some technical glitch on Facebook. The video which was to be on private mode went on public mode. But fans are happy that we came early. All is well that ends well," Rajamouli said.
"Baahubali: The Beginning" is one of the highest grossing Indian films, which reportedly earned Rs 650 crore at the box office.
Karan Johar, who is presenting the Hindi version of the film, joked that presenters made all the money.
"The presenters make money, the one who put their hard work, blood, sweat and tears don't make money always. But the equity the film has made is beyond monetary," he added.

From Mumbai to the Oscars — 8-year-old Sunny Pawar’s incredible journey

The 89th Academy Awards may be over, but the internet cannot get enough of eight-year-old Sunny Pawar. The Indian child actor who acted in the Oscar-nominated movie Lion starring Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman was a huge hit with the stars at the awards. Host Jimmy Kimmel even went on to pick Sunny up in his arms.

Sunny, who plays the role of Saroo Brierley, the younger version of Dev Patel, joined the Slumdog Millionaire actor on stage while he introduced their film. Lion is the true story of a young child who is separated from his family and later gets adopted by an Australian family. When he grows up, he uses Google Earth to find his parents.
Sunny used phonetics to learn and speak English as he speaks only Hindi. Initially, director Garth Davis had to struggle a bit, but only until Sunny overcame the obstacles with hard work. Garth and casting director Kristy McGregor went through over 2,000 tapes and zeroed in on Sunny for this role. In an interview with Vulture, Garth said, "For me, when I’m looking at all the kids, anyone who kind of touched that place in me, I thought we were getting close. But it was never a bull’s-eye, really, until one day, this little Sunny came into the room and he was kind of pretty instant for me."
Actor Dev Patel, in his chat with Daily Telegraph, had to say this about Sunny, "He’s our little mascot on this movie. For him, he’d never been on a plane before or seen a Hollywood film and now he’s leading this big movie. He’s so beautifully innocent and that’s why you get such a beautiful performance from him. He’s just really enjoying it."
Though Sunny is passionate about choosing acting as a career option, he is also interested in becoming an IPS officer and joining the Mumbai Police. He loves WWE and is very keen on attending a match soon, which he missed during his press tours. Otherwise, this adorable little actor likes to eat and sleep.
